Our Story

Home care shouldn’t end when the truck pulls away.

Housing affordability isn’t just mortgages and zoning. The largest cost of a home is what comes after you buy it: running the most expensive asset most families will ever own, with nothing watching it. It’s the biggest hidden affordability problem in the American economy, and the country isn’t measuring it.

The person who could catch these problems early is already in the house, the service professional who installed the equipment and earned the trust. But the moment the job closes, the connection ends. We built Shipshape to keep it open.

Shipshape started in Austin in 2020, founded by Alexander Linn, formerly of Salesforce’s Einstein AI team, on one question: why does AI run trillion-dollar enterprises but do nothing for the place people actually live? The answer is intelligent home management: sensors on the equipment itself, data that starts in the home, and the pro who knows it staying connected for good. We do this from inside the trades, not above them.

It’s a deliberately small team, held to account by a board that has operated at utility and enterprise scale, at Edison International and Verizon Enterprise, and backed by partners who put real capital behind the thesis, among them Alabama Power and Aeotec.

Our Values

What we believe

Service professionals deserve loyal customers.

You build trust one visit at a time. You deserve a platform that preserves it between visits, not one that watches it fade.

Homeowners deserve proactive care.

You deserve to know what’s in your home, what’s been serviced, and what needs attention before something breaks. That’s not a luxury. It’s the standard.

Technology should work for people, not against them.

Shipshape operates quietly and only surfaces when it genuinely matters. No learning curve. A home that knows itself.

Shops in 42 states already run on Shipshape. 150+ pros and counting.

01Stand out from the competition

Offer what no one else can.

A whole-home “check-engine light,” not just HVAC — monitoring the competition doesn’t have, delivered through your own branded app in the App Store.

02Win more sales

The data surfaces work worth doing.

Include monitoring by default on quotes and attach jumps from ~20% to 50%+ — 2–2.5× more customers on a monitoring relationship.

Real example — not an average

$3,000

A single alert turned a routine visit into a $3,000 job for Prime Comfort — 2–3× their typical ticket.

Real example — not an average

$15,000

Humidity alerts surfaced $15,000 in crawlspace-encapsulation projects for one foundation-repair dealer.

“This is increasing our close rate.”

Christian, CEO · Five Star Home Services

03Create customers for life

Stay in the home between visits.

Five Star Home Services is building “a business homeowners never leave.” Environment Masters attaches the app on 70%+ of maintenance visits — turning one-time jobs into a year-round relationship.

04A trusted advisor, not a sales rep

Show up already knowing.

The pro showed up already knowing what was wrong. No wasted time explaining, no upselling. He fixed the issue in 20 minutes because Shipshape had already diagnosed it.

A Shipshape customer

The bottom line

2–2.5×

More customers on monitoring

$2,000–3,200

New recurring revenue / 100 homes / yr

When monitoring is included by default on quotes, we estimate dealers move roughly 2–2.5× more customers onto a year-round monitoring relationship — on the order of $2,000–3,200 in new recurring revenue per 100 homes installed, per year.

Estimate, not a measured result. Modeled from Shipshape dealer data: monitoring attach rising from a ~20% baseline to a conservative 50% when monitoring is default-included on quotes (publicly corroborated by Environment Masters' 50%+ attach on high-efficiency installs), applied to canonical $9/mo monitoring with a downgrade/churn haircut. A model with a transparent basis, not a guarantee. Individual dealer results vary.
